Due to the growing interest of tourism
development in and around Namchi, it was felt that a sensitization
program needed to be conducted to facilitate the residents of
Namchi to emulate the right paradigms of tourism development. In
association with the local residents the Namchi Eco-tourism
Awareness and Planning workshop was organized on 9th
December 2003 at the Panchayat Bhawan. The turn out to the
workshop was very poor as participants could not be mobilized.
Hence again with collaboration with SIRD and the Zilla Panchayat a
second workshop date was finalized.

Appreciative Participatory Planning and Action (APPA) from 27th
to 29th December 2003. The

ECOSS organized a seminar for the Planning Commission to
give the team a glimpse of the activities being carried out by the
Non Government Organizations in Sikkim. Key organizations and
institutions working in the different developmental sectors across
Sikkim were invited and made to give brief presentations. The
objective of this exercise was to give the planning commission an
idea of how effectively the NGOs and CBOs were working in
different parts of Sikkim and how their work could fit into the
government plans and projects. The presentations of the different
institutions were well received and NGOs were encouraged to
