   MIRIK   

MIRIK is another tiny hill resort easily accessible from Siliguri, Kurseong or Darjeeling. The center-piece of the town is the Sumendu Lake where boating under the serene gaze of Khangchendzonga makes for a most relaxing pastime. Rameetay Dara and Deosi Dara are two elevated points near the lake from where the view is terrific. Apple orchards and tea gardens are other attractions.

The peaceful and tranquil hill resort of Mirik boasts of several nature spots. The wild flowers, lovely lake and flourishing forests of Cryptomaria Japanica trees make Mirik appear as a tropical paradise.

How to Get to Mirik:

Foreigners visiting Mirik must possess an Indian visa. No special permit is required for either traveling inside Mirik. However, necessary travel documents need to be shown as and when required.

Mirik. Tourist Cars, Tourist mini coaches and taxis are available for transfer of passengers between Mirik and Siliguri/New Jalpaiguri Junction/ Bagdogra.

ROAD CONNECTIONS: Mirik is connected with all weather metal road with Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kurseong etc.

Places to visit in and around Mirik:
Sumendu Lake - This man made lake is 1.25 km. long and a 3.5 km road surrounding it is the main attraction of this place. At the backdrop of the lake, you will get an idyllic view of Mt. Khangchendzonga and the green luster of Oak, Chestnut and Maple. The Sumendu Lake is ideal for activities like boating, fishing & picnicing but not for swimming.

Devi Sthan - Nearby on the west bank of the lake is the temple of Singha Devi or the Devi Sthan. You must visit the temple that attracts several tourists. If you move to the other side of the lake you may pray to Hanuman, Shiva and Kalimata in the temples dedicated to them. Bokar Gompa is other spot worth visiting.

Deosi Dara - This is a vintage point in Mirik that must be visited to catch some vistas of the plains, hills and peaks in and around Mirik.

Rameetay Dara is ideal for watching the spectacular sunset and the sunrise besides the mountains and plains of Mirik. You may even check out Kawlay Dara for some more breathtakingly beautiful views of Mirik.

Rai Dhap - While in Mirik you may even picnic at the spot of Rai Dhap. Rai Dhap has a small lake that is the source of potable water in Mirik.

Thurbo Tea Garden & Factory - A conducted tour of the tea factory is an interesting option at Mirik for it is surrounded by some of the best tea estates.

Apart from these, the nurseries of Mirik house a good collection of orchids although there number is not quite large.
